Motion Capture Data Technician

The brainchild of Eric Jacobus, the stunt talent behind Kratos in Sony’s award winning 2018 hit God of War, and 8 characters in NetherRealm’s Mortal Kombat 11, SAI aims to Vertically Integrate action through the entirety of a project, creating a powerful vehicle for narrative and character development. As a studio you can think of us as an external action direction team with expertise in previsualization, fight choreography, combat consulting, motion capture, cinematography, and stunt talent sourcing.

Motion Capture Data Technician
The motion capture data technician is essential to ensuring that shoot days run smoothly and efficiently while ensuring high quality, well organized data capture.

Type of position: Hourly Contractor
Compensation: $40/hr with lunch provided on shoot days
Snacks and drinks available in studio.

Responsibilities:
The main and routine functions of the Motion Capture Technician are to:

  • Assist team on Xsens motion capture system projects (ie. system calibration, capturing, post shoot duties etc.);

  • Sync video timecode with motion capture data (Good understanding of timecode: LTC, VITC, and metadata).

  • Ensure high quality data capture/data quality assurance during shoots;

  • Track and retarget motion capture data;

  • Maintain, install and repair studio equipment;

  • Monitoring reference cameras and testing new recording set-ups;

  • Contribute to the continued improvement of the mocap production process;

  • Ensure pipeline efficiency;

  • Participate in improving data delivery pipeline;

  • Stay current with motion capture practices;

  • Pipeline management;

  • File management.

Experience:

  • 2+ years’ experience in a similar position or any other relevant experience;

  • Experience working in film production an asset;

  • Experience working in game or software development an asset.

Other Skills - Strong Competency:

  • Understanding of complex computer systems and networks;

  • Solid with organization of data and file management

  • Aptitude with Windows & Microsoft Office Suite

  • Excellent communication skills and high-level of customer service;

  • Ability to collaborate and share knowledge within a team;

  • Must be willing to embrace change, and adhere to tight deadlines.

These Skills are a Bonus:

  • Experience with motion capture hardware, performance capture pipelines, and current related technologies

  • Experience with 3D Animation (Unity, Unreal, 3DSMax, Maya)

  • Experience with Adobe suite (Photoshop, Premier, AfterEffects)
